2,396 traffic violations booked in Visakhapatnam
The city traffic police booked 2,396 cases for various violations of the Motor Vehicles Act during a special enforcement drive conducted on May 1, 2026.
According to official figures, the highest number of cases — 1,070 — were registered against riders not wearing helmets, while 194 cases involved pillion riders without helmets. As many as 89 cases were booked for triple riding, and 306 for overspeeding, detected using interceptor vehicles.
The police also registered 17 cases for using mobile phones while driving, 10 cases for driving without a licence, and two cases involving minors driving vehicles. In addition, 154 cases were booked for wrong parking, while 92 vehicles were towed for the same offence.
A total of 34 cases were registered for drunk driving, and 58 vehicles were seized during the drive. Another 477 cases were booked under various other provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
In coordination with the Regional Transport Office (RTO), officials inspected nine private and RTC buses as part of the enforcement exercise.
Meanwhile, 19 persons caught driving under the influence of alcohol were produced before a magistrate, who imposed fines amounting to ₹1.9 lakh.
The police said enforcement would be intensified against offences such as bike racing, rash driving, and the use of modified silencers. Motorists were urged to follow traffic rules, adhere to speed limits, and avoid driving under the influence of alcohol, noting that even minor negligence can lead to serious accidents.
