DGP Plans Separate IPS Officer for Vizag Traffic Control
Director General of Police Harish Kumar Gupta on Tuesday said that a separate IPS officer will soon be appointed exclusively to manage traffic in Visakhapatnam in view of rising congestion and the city’s rapid urban expansion.
He said the move is intended to further strengthen traffic regulation in the fast-developing port city by introducing a more systematic and scientific approach to traffic management, congestion control, and long-term planning. He noted that increasing population and vehicle density are placing continuous pressure on the city’s road infrastructure.
The DGP announced after inaugurating a new police building complex near the Passport Office area in Visakhapatnam. The facility will house the Airport Traffic Police Station, Kancharapalem Traffic Police Station, and Airport Crime Police Station under one roof.
He was accompanied by Commissioner of Police Shankabrata Bagchi, Deputy Commissioners of Police, and other senior officials.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Gupta said the police department has been restructuring traffic police stations in line with the city’s evolving requirements. He observed that the Kancharapalem and Airport regions have emerged as key traffic corridors due to their strategic connectivity and proximity to the National Highway.
He said dedicated police stations have been established in these important locations to ensure easier public access and quicker response from police personnel. He added that the newly inaugurated complex, located adjacent to the National Highway, will enable citizens to approach the police conveniently for both traffic and law and order-related issues.
He further stated that a cybercrime police station will soon be established on the fourth floor of the same building complex.
