Deloitte’s proposed Vizag expansion boosts city’s IT ambitions

Deloitte eyes Vizag, gives major push to city’s IT ambitions

Visakhapatnam’s emergence as a major technology and business destination received a significant boost on Wednesday, with global consulting giant Deloitte reportedly initiating internal outreach to explore setting up operations in the city.

Sources said the company circulated expression-of-interest emails among employees to assess willingness for relocation to a proposed facility in Visakhapatnam, signalling early groundwork for building a core operational team. Though the company has not made any official announcement, the development has triggered excitement across the city’s IT and business sectors.

The move is being seen as a strong endorsement of Visakhapatnam’s growing profile as an emerging technology hub at a time when multinational firms are increasingly looking beyond traditional metro cities for expansion.

Industry experts said the proposed expansion could mark a turning point for the city’s IT ecosystem, particularly with the rapid growth of the Rushikonda IT corridor and ongoing infrastructure development projects aimed at strengthening connectivity and urban capacity.

“The interest shown by a global consulting leader like Deloitte reflects the growing confidence companies have in Visakhapatnam’s potential,” a senior industry representative said. “The city is gradually emerging as a competitive destination for technology, consulting, and knowledge-based industries.”

Business leaders believe the possible entry of a Big Four consulting firm could generate large-scale employment opportunities for skilled professionals while also accelerating investments in allied sectors such as real estate, hospitality, retail, and transportation.

The development assumes significance as Andhra Pradesh has been actively promoting Visakhapatnam as a key investment destination for the IT and services sectors. Analysts say the arrival of a major multinational player could further enhance investor confidence and strengthen the city’s position on India’s technology map.
