Bhogapuram airport inauguration likely on July 5: MP
Preparations for the inauguration of the Bhogapuram International Airport are progressing at a brisk pace, with the State government proposing July 5 for the launch of the project by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Visakhapatnam Member of Parliament M. Sribharat said here on Saturday.
Speaking to media persons after laying the foundation stone for drinking water infrastructure works at Arilova, Mr. Sribharat said the upcoming airport would emerge as a major growth driver for the North Andhra region. “The project will give a significant fillip to tourism, Information Technology, industrial activity, and generate substantial employment opportunities,” the MP said.
Mr. Sribharat stated that commercial flight operations are expected to commence soon after the formal inauguration. Welcoming the decision of budget airline Scoot to start international services from Bhogapuram from July 8, he added that several other domestic and international carriers are likely to announce their operations shortly.
The State government is simultaneously working on improving multi-modal connectivity to the airport with a focus on road infrastructure and public transportation.
“Arrangements are being made to ensure the hassle-free availability of RTC buses, cabs, and auto-rickshaws for passengers, particularly those dependent on public transport,” Mr. Sribharat said.
The MP issued an advisory to passengers who have already booked flights from the existing Visakhapatnam Airport for travel after July 8, urging them to confirm their departure terminal. Warning that passengers could face severe inconvenience if they report to the old airport without verifying the revised operational details, he said that while Scoot has already intimated its flyers, other airlines are expected to notify travelers directly.
Mr. Sribharat appealed to the public to remain updated on the transition and requested the media to create awareness about the new travel arrangements.
