GVMC Gears Up for Yogandhra-2026

The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has begun preparations for Yogandhra-2026 programmes across the city ahead of the International Day of Yoga on June 21.

In a statement issued on Monday, GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg said the State government was organising “Yoga Month” activities from June 7 to 20 to promote yoga as part of daily life and advance the Vision 2047 goal of a “Healthy Andhra”.

Mr. Garg said zonal-level action plans were being prepared, while ward-level committees comprising officials from the revenue, women welfare and health departments would coordinate the programmes. Awareness campaigns would be conducted in schools, colleges, government offices, residential colonies, market areas, self-help groups and youth organisations.

The GVMC will identify yoga trainers for clusters of three to four wards and earmark suitable locations for regular practice sessions. Officials have been directed to make arrangements for venues, sound systems, drinking water, medical support, sanitation and security to ensure the smooth conduct of the programmes.

Special emphasis would be placed on mobilising women from self-help groups, students, youth, employees and professionals through training and awareness initiatives, he said.

Appealing to citizens to participate in large numbers, Mr. Garg said yoga could contribute to improved health and well-being and urged residents to take part in the International Day of Yoga celebrations.
