SBI inaugurates EV charging station at Visakhapatnam administrative office

State Bank of India (SBI) has expanded its green infrastructure initiatives by setting up an electric vehicle (EV) charging station at its Administrative Office in Visakhapatnam.

The facility, inaugurated on Thursday, is expected to cater to employees, customers, and visitors using electric vehicles while promoting the adoption of cleaner modes of transport.

The charging station was inaugurated by Prafulla Kumar Jena, General Manager (Network-I), SBI, and Rahul Sankritya, Deputy General Manager, SBI, Visakhapatnam, in the presence of senior officials and staff members.

Addressing the gathering, the officials said the initiative is part of the bank’s efforts to promote environmental sustainability and support the country’s transition to green mobility. They said improving access to charging infrastructure is essential to encourage the growing use of electric vehicles and help reduce carbon emissions.

The officials observed that the rapid increase in EV adoption across India has underscored the need for a robust charging network. They said the availability of charging stations at workplaces and public institutions would make electric vehicles more convenient to use and support the development of sustainable transportation infrastructure.

According to SBI, the charging station is expected to benefit employees, customers, and visitors who own or use electric vehicles. The bank said the initiative also reflects its focus on integrating sustainability into its day-to-day operations through environmentally responsible infrastructure.

SBI has undertaken several initiatives in recent years to reduce its environmental footprint and support green projects. The commissioning of the EV charging station at its Visakhapatnam Administrative Office forms part of the bank’s broader sustainability agenda aimed at encouraging clean energy adoption and responsible banking practices.

Senior officials and employees of the SBI Administrative Office attended the inauguration.
