Naidu hails UPI as landmark initiative on 10th anniversary

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday described the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) as a landmark initiative that has transformed the way Indians conduct financial transactions, as the digital payments platform marked 10 years of operation.

Responding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s post on X marking the milestone, Naidu said UPI had become an integral part of everyday life by making financial transactions simpler and more convenient for people across sections of society.

“Speaking from my own experience, UPI has completely transformed how Andhra Pradesh and India deal with money every single day,” Naidu said.

He said UPI had become part of the daily lives of ordinary citizens, enabling quick and easy transactions for street vendors, women entrepreneurs, small business owners and students.

Naidu described UPI as an example of India’s growing technological capabilities and said its success had demonstrated the country’s digital prowess to the world.

“Congratulations to every Indian on 10 years of UPI! A landmark initiative that showcases India’s tech prowess to the world,” he said in a post on X, using the hashtag #10YearsOfUPI.

Over the past decade, UPI has emerged as one of the world’s largest digital payment systems, changing the way Indians send and receive money.

From roadside vendors and neighbourhood shops to large businesses, digital payments have reduced dependence on cash and made instant transactions a routine part of everyday life.

The widespread adoption of UPI has also brought small traders, self-employed workers and other sections of the population into the expanding digital economy.

Naidu said the impact was visible in Andhra Pradesh as well, where digital payments have increasingly become part of everyday transactions.

Highlighting UPI’s accessibility and ease of use, the Chief Minister said the platform represented a major technological achievement and an important step in India’s transition towards a more digitally connected economy.
