GVMC chief asks officials to prepare action plan for city development
GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg has directed engineering officials to prepare a comprehensive action plan for development works across all zones and wards under the Visakhapatnam Economic Region development programme.
At a review meeting with engineering officials at the GVMC headquarters here on Thursday, Mr. Garg said the plan should focus on developing infrastructure to meet the city’s future requirements. Additional Commissioner S.S. Varma and Chief Engineer P.V.V. Satyanarayana Raju attended the meeting.
The Commissioner sought details of ongoing works and future proposals from the Superintending Engineers and Executive Engineers of all zones.
He directed officials to conduct field surveys, assess infrastructure requirements, including roads, drains, parks, streetlights, central medians and cremation grounds, and submit proposals at the earliest to utilise available funding.
Gangadhar of Nippon Koei Agency explained the proposed designs and action plan for roads, junctions and bus bays.
Sohan Kumar of Ernst & Young briefed Mr. Garg through a video conference on proposals for water connections and supply charges for BPL, APL, 24/7 bulk and semi-bulk, domestic, commercial, institutional and apartment categories.
Mr. Garg instructed officials to identify infrastructure needs in every zone and ward and prioritise works in line with the objectives of the Visakhapatnam Economic Region programme.
He also expressed concern over the attendance and field supervision of Assistant Engineers and directed officials to address the lapses immediately.
Officials were instructed to update records from the commencement of works and ensure that completion details were recorded without delay. Mr. Garg warned that negligence in the discharge of duties would not be tolerated.
He directed officials to submit reports on works completed with funds from the 15th Finance Commission and prepare proposals in advance to seek grants under the 16th Finance Commission.
Mr. Varma and Mr. Raju were asked to compile details of the proposed development works across all zones and wards and prepare a comprehensive report.
Superintending Engineers, Executive Engineers, Deputy Executive Engineers, Assistant Engineers, DDH Vasuki, and other officials attended the meeting.
