Dr. Sushma Raj, Dr. Amukta Malyada and members of the faculty honoured the musician in recognition of her contributions to classical music.
Addressing students, faculty members and aspiring artists, Dr. Rama urged young musicians to pursue their art with sincerity and preserve their creative instincts despite the pressures of modern media and the demands of frequent performances.
Speaking on the concept of “art for art’s sake,” she said artistic practice should be guided by inner conviction and passion. She stressed the importance of honesty in artistic expression and sustained efforts to nurture one’s creative abilities.
Referring to vocal training, traditional sadhana and various schools of artistic thought, including mimesis, expressionism and formalism, she said the pursuit of artistic excellence requires discipline, resilience and continuous self-improvement.
The programme concluded with an interactive session during which students and young artists sought her guidance. The event was organised as part of the university’s efforts to promote classical arts and foster cultural appreciation among students.
