APSRTC readies 20 electric buses for Bhogapuram airport connectivity

The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) will roll out 20 electric buses on August 1 to provide dedicated public transport services to the upcoming Bhogapuram International Airport, marking a significant step towards sustainable urban mobility.

APSRTC Regional Manager (Visakhapatnam) B. Appala Naidu said the corporation has nearly completed all arrangements for the launch. Of the 20 buses, seven have already arrived in Visakhapatnam, while the remaining 13 are expected to reach the city by July 25.

The new fleet is expected to be formally flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu during the inauguration of the airport.

The buses will operate on two major corridors connecting the airport with different parts of the city. While 10 buses will run between Gajuwaka, NAD, and Bhogapuram, the remaining 10 will connect Scindia, Visakhapatnam Railway Station, Rushikonda, and Bhogapuram, offering seamless travel options for air passengers.

According to Mr. Appala Naidu, the corporation is completing vehicle registration, driver induction, and specialised training for operating electric buses at the Steel City depot. Officials have also inspected the charging infrastructure and staff amenities at Bhogapuram and found them ready for commercial operations.

To strengthen the charging network, APSRTC is setting up additional charging stations at Dwaraka Bus Station, Maddilapalem, Chodavaram, Kothavalasa and Elamanchili.

The corporation is also planning a major expansion of its electric fleet, with another 80 e-buses expected to be inducted in the Visakhapatnam region by the end of October, he said.
