APTF seeks removal of objectionable scenes from Irumudi

The Andhra Pradesh Teachers’ Federation (APTF) has demanded the removal of scenes from Telugu film Irumudi that allegedly portray government school teachers and students in a derogatory manner.

In a statement, APTF state president Chennupati Manjula and general secretary K. Basavalinga Rao said cinema is a powerful medium that can shape public perception and urged filmmakers to exercise caution while portraying educational institutions, teachers and students.

The federation alleged that the film depicts a government school teacher in an extremely negative manner.

It said the portrayal could not be dismissed as mere fiction, as the film also features a government school in Andhra Pradesh.

The APTF leaders pointed out that the uniforms worn by students in the film resemble those currently used by students in government schools in the state. They also said the film refers to the Zilla Parishad Girls’ High School at Sileru in Alluri Sitarama Raju district, and uses the setting of government schools, teachers and students as part of its narrative.

According to the federation, such depictions could affect the dignity of government school teachers and create a negative perception about the government school system among the public.

The APTF urged the filmmakers to remove the objectionable scenes and ensure that government teachers and students are not depicted in a manner that affects their dignity and reputation.

It also appealed to the Andhra Pradesh Film Development Corporation and other authorities concerned to examine the issue and take appropriate action.

The federation urged the state government to ensure that the dignity and reputation of government schools, teachers and students are protected.
