Collector sets June deadline for Bhogapuram airport road works
Visakhapatnam District Collector M. Abhishikth Kishore has directed officials to accelerate the construction of approach roads connecting Visakhapatnam city to the upcoming Bhogapuram International Airport and ensure completion of the works by the end of June.
Reviewing the progress of infrastructure and development works related to the international airport project on Saturday, the Collector stressed the need for long-term planning in the design of major junctions and connecting corridors to meet future traffic demands. He said the road network should be built with durable infrastructure standards to ensure smooth traffic flow and commuter safety once the airport becomes operational.
Highlighting the importance of sustainable and passenger-friendly transport systems, Mr. Kishore instructed officials to set up dedicated charging stations within the airport premises for battery-operated buses to be operated by Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation. He said the move would strengthen last-mile connectivity while encouraging eco-friendly transportation.
The Collector directed officials of the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority and the Roads and Buildings Department to expedite the ongoing road works and complete all pending stretches within the stipulated timeline. He also asked the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation to complete civic development works under its jurisdiction without delay.
Officials were further instructed to complete the installation of streetlights along the road corridors to enhance visibility and commuter safety. Mr. Kishore also directed the departments concerned to coordinate with the Forest Department to resolve pending clearance issues at the earliest.
Later, the Collector inspected the airport terminal interiors, passenger amenities, and the Air Traffic Control tower to assess the pace of ongoing construction works at the project site.
