Emergency Medical Centre Opens at Visakhapatnam Railway Station

A round-the-clock emergency medical centre was inaugurated at Platform No. 1 of Visakhapatnam railway station on Wednesday, offering passengers immediate access to first aid and emergency medical services at nominal charges.

The facility has been established under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Railways and Pinnacle Hospitals. It will operate 24 hours a day, with a doctor, a pharmacist, and an assistant on duty to provide immediate medical care to passengers during emergencies.

The centre is equipped with essential emergency-care facilities, including wheelchairs, stretchers, medical oxygen and a defibrillator. An ambulance will also be available on call for patients who require further treatment or need to be shifted to a hospital.

Divisional Railway Manager Lalit Bohra, Chief Medical Superintendent Dr Sharath Babu, cardiologist Dr G.V. Reddy, Medical Superintendent Dr Krishna Nayak and hospital administrator Ch. Indira inspected the newly established centre.

“The emergency medical centre will ensure that passengers receive timely medical assistance in case of illness or emergencies while travelling through the station,” Lalit Bohra said.

Railway officials said the facility would be particularly beneficial to elderly passengers, children and those requiring immediate medical attention. Patients can receive initial treatment at the station and, if necessary, be shifted to a hospital by ambulance.

The initiative aims to strengthen medical support for passengers and ensure prompt access to emergency care at one of the region’s busiest railway stations.
