Free power for authorised Ganesh pandals in Visakhapatnam
The Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (APEPDCL) will provide free electricity for decorative lighting at authorised Ganesh pandals in the city during Vinayaka Chavithi celebrations from September 14 to 25.
G Shyam Babu, Superintending Engineer, Visakhapatnam Operation Circle, said organisers should register their pandals with the concerned electricity officials and complete the prescribed formalities to avail themselves of the facility.
The maximum permissible load will be 5 kW in urban areas and 3 kW in rural areas. Organisers requiring additional load will have to obtain temporary connections as per the existing rules.
The APEPDCL has advised organisers to use authorised connections, ISI-standard wires and suitable MCBs and ELCBs, besides ensuring proper earthing and that distribution boxes are waterproof. LED lights have been recommended, while damaged wires, loose connections and circuit overloading should be avoided.
Organisers have also been cautioned to ensure that pandals and idol processions are kept at a safe distance from overhead power lines, transformers and other electrical equipment. Special care should be taken while transporting tall idols, particularly during the monsoon.
In case of an electrical accident, short circuit or sparking, the main switch should be turned off immediately and the electricity department informed. Consumers can contact 1912 for emergencies, complaints and assistance, Mr. Shyam Babu said.
