Gajuwaka MLA pitches IT hubs, rehabilitation push in Vizag

Telugu Desam Party State president Palla Srinivasa Rao has proposed the development of nearly 600 acres in Visakhapatnam for IT and knowledge-based industries to create jobs and support economic growth in the region.

At a review meeting with senior officials at the Collectorate, the Gajuwaka MLA suggested using around 400 acres of government land on Yarada hill and another 175 acres near Aganampudi for technology-related industries. Referring to the State government’s focus on the IT sector under the leadership of IT Minister Nara Lokesh, he said the projects could provide employment opportunities for local youth.

Mr Srinivasa Rao asked officials to conduct feasibility studies and prepare a long-term development plan for the identified land parcels.

The meeting also discussed pending rehabilitation issues linked to the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant and Gangavaram Port projects. The MLA said several promises made to displaced families during land acquisition were still pending. He sought details on house-site allotments, pattas, and employment claims.

Officials were directed to submit reports on pending rehabilitation benefits, compensation, and livelihood support provided to affected families.

The review also covered pending development works under the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority and APIIC-related issues concerning Pharma City. Mr Srinivasa Rao said several displaced families were still waiting for house pattas despite pursuing the matter for many years.

He also raised civic issues in the constituency, including drinking water shortages, damaged roads, drainage problems, and sanitation concerns. The MLA urged officials to study the possibility of regularising settlements where thousands of families have been living for decades.
