Kakinada Court Grants Bail to Comedian Anudeep Katikala

A local court in Kakinada on Friday granted bail to Hyderabad-based stand-up comedian Anudeep Katikala, days after his arrest in connection with alleged derogatory remarks about the personal life of Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan.

Anudeep was arrested on April 15 in Uttar Pradesh by Kakinada police following a complaint lodged by Jana Sena Party supporter Bade Venkata Krishna. Acting on the complaint, police initiated proceedings and later moved the court. The court subsequently granted bail.

Speaking about the case, Kakinada Superintendent of Police G. Bindu Madhav said a detailed investigation is currently underway. “A case has been registered against Anudeep under Sections 356(2), 353(2), and 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with provisions of the Information Technology Act. The investigation is underway,” he said.

Police officials said the complaint alleged that objectionable comments were made through online platforms, prompting legal action under relevant cyber and criminal provisions. Authorities added that digital evidence is being examined as part of the probe.

Meanwhile, sources said the court considered the arguments presented by both sides before granting bail under stipulated conditions. Further proceedings in the case are expected to continue as the investigation progresses.
