Midnight Tremors in Yelamanchili Trigger Panic Among Residents
A mild earthquake measuring 3.7 on the Richter scale was reported in and around Yelamanchili in Anakapalli district shortly after midnight, triggering panic among residents who were awakened by the tremors.
According to officials, the earthquake struck at 12.28 a.m. at a depth of 20 kilometres below the earth’s surface. The tremors lasted for a few seconds and were felt in Yelamanchili town as well as several nearby villages in the mandal.
Many residents said they were startled from their sleep as doors, windows, and household objects shook briefly. Several people reportedly came out of their homes in fear and remained outdoors for some time.
“We suddenly felt the cot shaking and heard the windows rattling. Everyone in the house woke up immediately and rushed outside,” said a resident of Yelamanchili.
Another local resident said the tremors caused anxiety as they occurred in the middle of the night. “It lasted only a few seconds, but it was enough to create panic among families,” he said.
Officials said no loss of life or damage to property had been reported so far. Authorities are monitoring the situation and advised people not to panic, as the tremor was mild in nature.
