Parawada students selected for international AI robotics contest

Students of Parawada Government Junior College have secured a place in an international-level AI robotics competition after their innovative project won recognition at a national event held in Bengaluru earlier this month.

The students presented their project, titled AI Posture Correction System: Health and Ergonomics, at the Code Over 7.0 National AI Robotics Technology Competition organised by STEMpedia on April 11 and 12. Following their performance, they were selected to participate in the international contest to be held in Indonesia on May 16 and 17.

The project is aimed at addressing health issues caused by poor posture among students and office-goers who spend long hours in front of computers. Using artificial intelligence, the system analyses whether a person is sitting or standing correctly and provides instant alerts whenever corrective action is needed.

Developed over a month, the model uses a Quark robot, a laptop, machine learning applications, a camera, and app-based tools to monitor posture in real time. It is expected to help reduce neck, back, and shoulder pain caused by prolonged incorrect sitting positions.

The initiative received support from NTPC Limited, which set up an AI and Robotics Lab at the college two years ago under its CSR programme at a cost of ₹20 lakh. The company has also provided a trainer and extended assistance towards the students’ travel, accommodation, and food expenses for competitions.

Principal Vinod Babu congratulated the students on their achievement and said their selection for the international event was a matter of pride for the institution.

The project was developed by R. Tarun and M. Shivani under the guidance of teacher Sai Lakshmi.
