Seminar on indigenous submarine sonar technologies held
The Eastern Naval Command hosted a seminar on indigenous submarine sonar technologies in Visakhapatnam on July 3, bringing together defence personnel, industry experts, researchers, and academicians.
Vice Admiral Susheel Menon, Chief of Staff, Eastern Naval Command, who chaired the seminar, emphasised the need to strengthen indigenous underwater surveillance capabilities through advanced sonar systems developed under the Centre’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
According to an official release, he said the changing nature of underwater warfare underscored the need for continuous innovation in sonar technology and greater collaboration among designers, operators, maintainers, industry, and academia.
Presentations covered the operational employment of submarine sonar systems, optimisation of human resources for sonar operators, database management, and the integration of emerging technologies for underwater surveillance. A compendium of technical papers by Indian sonar designers and experienced submarine operators was also released.
The seminar, steered by the Flag Officer Submarines, served as a forum to discuss advances in sonar design, technology integration, and data fusion, with participants also deliberating on improving the design, development, and operational employment of indigenous sonar systems, the release said.
