Sri Sri Ravi Shankar inaugurates skill centre at Bhogapuram

Spiritual leader and Art of Living Foundation founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar inaugurated the GMR Varalakshmi Foundation (GMRVF) Skill Development Centre at Bhogapuram on Sunday.

He interacted with trainees and staff and was briefed on the centre’s training programmes and employment initiatives. The centre can train up to 1,000 youth annually and offers industry-oriented classroom and practical training, with a dedicated wing for placements in India and abroad.

During his visit, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar also visited Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport, where GMR Group Chairman G.M. Rao briefed him on its infrastructure and development.

Describing the airport as a potential catalyst for North Andhra’s growth, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar said it could create opportunities in tourism, trade, investment, employment and entrepreneurship.

GMRVF CEO Ashwini Saxena said the skill centre was intended to ensure that local youth benefited from the economic opportunities emerging around the airport. GMRVF has also launched a mobile medical unit in Bhogapuram as part of its community development initiatives.

The airport, developed and operated by GMR Visakhapatnam International Airport Ltd., is envisaged as a major aviation and connectivity hub for North Coastal Andhra Pradesh.
