Vizag to host 65 summer sports coaching camps across 28 disciplines
The District Sports Authority (DSA) has kicked off 65 annual summer coaching camps spanning 28 sports disciplines across rural and urban pockets of the district this month, following directives from the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) and the District Collector, who also chairs the DSA.
Running through May 31, the camps are designed to channel the energy of children between 8 and 16 years into structured sports training, identify raw talent early, and keep youngsters meaningfully engaged through the summer break.
District Sports Development Officer June Gallyot said the camps are designed each year to foster a sporting culture among children, promote fitness, and encourage a healthier lifestyle. “The summer vacation offers the perfect window for students to develop skills across a wide range of disciplines,” she noted.
In a boost to the programme, Bheemili MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao distributed sports equipment to camp in-charges on Wednesday, May 13, for disciplines including boxing, water sports, athletics, volleyball, triathlon, and pentathlon — all conducted under SAAP approval.
Officials said the camps reflect a broader push to build grassroots sporting infrastructure and nurture the next generation of competitive athletes within the district.
