Visakhapatnam Pushes Clean Air Action Plan
A workshop on the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) and heat stress was held in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday, bringing together officials, experts, and industry representatives to discuss air quality management and climate resilience.
Organised by GVMC in collaboration with CSTEP, Bengaluru, and Artha Global, the session focused on data-driven planning, emission control strategies, and integrating heat risk into urban development.
GVMC Additional Commissioner D.V. Ramana Murthy called for coordinated action to reduce industrial and vehicular emissions and strengthen sustainability measures. Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board officials noted that air quality has improved in recent years, though the AQI still spikes up to 300 on certain days.
Experts highlighted the need for scientific monitoring, emission inventories, air quality modelling, and effective implementation of clean air action plans, along with stronger integration of heat stress mitigation into city planning.
The workshop included technical sessions on emission inventories, “data to action” frameworks, and heat mapping, followed by group discussions on future action plans for Visakhapatnam.
