Waltair Division launches green mobility drive; e-bicycles introduced

The Waltair Division of the East Coast Railway has launched a campaign to promote sustainable practices and environmental awareness as part of the Government of India’s efforts to reduce fuel consumption and tackle global warming.

As part of the initiative, Dr. Lankapalli Bullayya College handed over e-bicycles to the Division to support eco-friendly mobility. The e-bicycles were inaugurated at the DRM Office in Dondaparthi on Monday by Divisional Railway Manager Lalit Bohra.

Railway officials said the campaign aims to create awareness among employees, passengers, and the public on environmental conservation and sustainable transport.

Mr. Bohra appreciated the college’s initiative and said electric mobility is the need of the hour. He said “Prabhat Pheri” awareness drives would be conducted using e-bicycles across railway colonies and premises during the campaign.

He added that the Division would continue to promote green initiatives across stations, offices, and railway colonies.

The programme was attended by Dr. G. Madhu Kumar, Secretary and Correspondent of Dr. Lankapalli Bullayya College, along with faculty representatives.

Senior railway officials, including ADRM (Operations) K. Rama Rao and Senior Divisional Commercial Manager K. Pavan Kumar, were present.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Deepak Chowdary said e-bicycles are eco-friendly and suitable for students and health-conscious citizens. He said they can run up to 30 km on a single charge, have safety features and quick-charging capability, and do not require a driving licence or registration.

Railway officials said workshops and awareness programmes on climate action, waste segregation, cleanliness, and plantation drives will also be organised during the campaign.
