1,950 police deployed for AU centenary, VIP visits in Visakhapatnam

The city police will deploy nearly 1,950 personnel on Monday for the centenary celebrations of Andhra University and the proposed foundation stone-laying ceremony of the Google AI Data Centre. The Vice-President, the Governor, the Chief Minister, and other dignitaries are expected to attend.

City Police Commissioner Dr. Shankhabrata Bagchi said the police had drawn up detailed security and traffic plans for the events.

The police have posted senior officers to monitor traffic and law and order. They have divided the bandobast into sectors and assigned one supervisory officer to each sector.

Security teams will guard the airport, the Andhra University campus, the Engineering College Grounds, and the proposed data centre site. Officers have also briefed staff on convoy movement, crowd control, access checks, and parking management.

Sniffer dog squads and bomb disposal teams inspected all venues linked to the visit. Road Opening Party teams are checking the routes that the Chief Minister and other VVIPs will use.

Traffic police will manage key junctions and busy stretches to keep vehicles moving. Officials said they would try to minimise inconvenience to the public.

The police have arranged separate parking areas for dignitaries, invitees, and other participants attending the two events.

Earlier, Dr. Bagchi visited the venues and reviewed the preparations. He also held a briefing session for officers at YVS Murthy Auditorium in the presence of senior officials.
