60 Held in Visakhapatnam Property Offence Cases
Visakhapatnam city police arrested 60 persons allegedly involved in 51 property offence cases reported during April 2026 and recovered stolen property and missing mobile phones worth over ₹1 crore, Police Commissioner Shankabratha Bagchi said on Saturday.
Speaking at a press conference held under the “Monthly Crime Mela” programme at the police conference hall, Mr. Bagchi said 68 property offence cases had been reported in the city during April. Special investigation teams formed to probe the cases detected 51 offences using technical evidence and surveillance methods.
The police recovered stolen property worth ₹33.67 lakh, including 924.14 grams of gold, 4,529.96 grams of silver, and ₹3.12 lakh in cash. Besides this, 473 missing mobile phones valued at around ₹70 lakh were also traced and recovered. The total value of the recovered property stood at approximately ₹1.04 crore, he said.
Among the cases detected were two robberies, three daytime house break-ins, ten nighttime house break-ins, one snatching case, twelve motorcycle thefts, and three auto theft cases, apart from other offences.
Mr. Bagchi said the police had strengthened preventive measures during April by installing 502 CCTV cameras at various locations across the city. Crime wing officers also conducted around 190 awareness meetings to educate people about different types of crimes, criminal activities, and the importance of CCTV surveillance.
He said special police teams carried out day and night patrolling in crime-prone areas, while drone surveillance was being conducted in isolated localities to keep a watch on criminal and illegal activities.
During the programme, Mr. Bagchi, DCP (Crimes), Latha Madhuri, and other senior police officials handed over recovered stolen and lost property to the rightful owners.
