Collector stresses industrial safety, orders strict checks
District Collector Vijaya Krishnan emphasized that industrial safety remains a top priority for the administration. She announced that a special audit team is visiting hazardous industries to review safety standards.
Speaking at a meeting with industry representatives and officials from the Pollution Control Board, Labour, Fire, Electricity, and Drugs Control departments at the Collectorate conference hall, she reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to protecting lives, ensuring safe workplaces, and upholding environmental safeguards.
The audit team is assessing workplace safety, emergency systems, worker training, and environmental measures, identifying gaps, and recommending corrective actions to prevent industrial accidents.
The team comprises officials from the District Industries Department, Pollution Control Board, Factories, Labour, APIIC, Boilers, Fire Services, Electrical Safety, and Drugs Control. They work closely with industry owners, employees, and local authorities to strengthen safety standards across all levels.
So far, the team has inspected 179 industries, issuing notices to several units for violations. The Pollution Control Board issued 24 notices, Boiler Department 79, Fire Services 59, Drugs Control 8, Electrical Safety 179, and Factories Department 176.
Collector Vijaya Krishnan has directed the audit team to revisit these industries to verify compliance and warned that strict action will be taken against units that fail to implement corrective measures.
