India’s Rs 1.47 Lakh Crore Steel Plant by Arcelor Mittal and Nippon Steel to Create 60,000 Jobs
One of India’s largest steel projects is set to move ahead, with Arcelor Mittal and Nippon Steel India Limited planning a Rs 1.47 lakh crore plant with an annual capacity of 8.2 million tonnes. The announcement follows public opinion proceedings held on Saturday.
The plant will be developed in two phases. The first phase, costing Rs 1.47 lakh crore, is expected to be operational by January 2029, producing 7.3 million tonnes annually. The second phase, slated for 2033, will expand capacity to 10.5 million tonnes per year.
“Once operational, this plant will not only strengthen India’s steel production capacity but also create over 60,000 direct and indirect jobs,” said a senior official from the state revenue department. “The project has been planned to minimize environmental impact and provide sustainable development for the region.”
Revenue and government sources said the plant will cover Bucchirajupeta, Chandanada, DL Puram, Rajayyapeta, and Vempadu lands.
A key component of the project is a captive port for importing raw materials and exporting steel. The company has requested 128 hectares of coastal land for the port, which will feature five berths over 15 km in the first phase and 12 berths over 3.8 km in the second. “The port will be a critical component for logistics efficiency and is expected to provide employment to around 8,000 people,” said an Arcelor Mittal spokesperson.
The state government is preparing to acquire land for the second phase of the plant and port, with revenue officials estimating about 4,000 acres will be needed.
During the public opinion proceedings, local residents expressed support for the project but demanded better compensation and employment opportunities. “We are not against the plant, but we want fair compensation and jobs for the displaced families,” said a community leader from Vempadu. Authorities were urged to ensure adequate facilities and fair compensation for affected residents.
Congratulation for so brave decision, in current times only this kind of projrcts can be successful
