VPA, AP Govt Ink ₹29,662-Cr Deal for Mega Port and Shipbuilding Hub
The Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) and the Andhra Pradesh government have signed a ₹29,662-crore MoU to build a major port and shipbuilding cluster at Dugarajapatnam in Tirupati district.
The project aims to boost job creation, expand India’s maritime capacity, and strengthen the Make in India mission. VPA said the new cluster will include modern ship repair facilities and advanced infrastructure to accelerate India’s maritime growth.
During India Maritime Week 2025 in Mumbai, HD Korean Shipbuilders Offshore Engineers Ltd. met VPA and state officials to discuss technical features of the project. The event runs till October 31 and features global leaders in port and shipping industries.
VPA also signed multiple MoUs to strengthen logistics and infrastructure:
- MECON India: ₹3,000-crore deal to develop stack yards and railway sidings for faster cargo movement.
- NBCC: ₹500-crore self-financing project to monetise and develop underused land in Harbour Park.
- HUDCO: ₹487.38-crore partnership to modernise cargo berths with advanced handling systems and greener operations.
- RVNL: ₹535-crore agreement to build internal flyovers for smoother traffic within the port.
At IMW, VPA showcased its land monetisation plan to attract private investment and modernise port zones. The authority said its new projects will bring over ₹39,216 crore in fresh investments to Andhra Pradesh.
“These initiatives will create jobs, improve logistics, and support India’s goal of achieving Net Zero emissions by 2047,” the VPA statement said.
India Maritime Week has drawn participants from over 100 countries, highlighting India’s ambition to become a global maritime hub through innovation in port infrastructure, shipbuilding, and green shipping.
