CM Naidu to Launch ArcelorMittal Steel Plant in Anakapalli
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will lay the foundation stone for the ArcelorMittal steel plant near Nakkapalli later this month. The Rs 1.47 lakh crore project will rank among the biggest industrial investments in Andhra Pradesh, boosting both the economy and job creation.
The steel plant will occupy about 2,020 acres in Nakkapalli mandal. Construction teams have begun building essential infrastructure. Roads and drainage systems are nearing completion, while pipeline work continues.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to join the groundbreaking ceremony. Officials are yet to confirm whether he will attend in person or virtually.
The State government, with support from the Centre, worked closely to bring this project to Andhra Pradesh. During a public consultation held last month, residents and local leaders expressed full support for the plant.
ArcelorMittal will build the facility in two phases, covering about 2,200 acres. The first phase aims to produce 7.3 million tonnes of steel by 2029 and create around 20,000 jobs. The second phase will expand capacity to 10.5 million tonnes by 2033, adding 35,000 more jobs. Altogether, the project is expected to generate about 70,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities.
The company has secured land in DL Puram, Vempadu, and Chandanad villages. Work on roads and related infrastructure in these areas is advancing rapidly. Officials say the project has sparked optimism in the region, particularly in the Payakaraopeta constituency.
A toy manufacturing unit is also planned nearby. It will provide jobs for about 25,000 women. Together, the steel plant and the toy unit will create thousands of employment opportunities and strengthen local economic growth.
