GVMC Drives Long-Term City Development

Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) Commissioner Ketan Garg said the city’s beautification and infrastructure projects go beyond preparations for the 30th CII Partnership Summit. They are part of a long-term plan to strengthen Visakhapatnam’s infrastructure for future national and international events.

Garg inspected key works, including high-intensity light poles along RK Beach, beach sand poles, and improvements to roads, footpaths, painting, lighting, and greenery from Park Hotel to Andhra University Grounds. He directed officials to complete all projects by November 11 with consistent quality.

Nearly 95 percent of projects over the past three months are complete. This includes 9.5 km of bitumen roads, 26 km of footpaths, 57 km of median repairs, median grills, mural art, upgraded bus bays, and improved lighting and greenery.

Beach Road, called the “face of Visakhapatnam,” is receiving special attention with round-the-clock sand cleaning, sewage prevention, underground cabling, new pipelines, upgraded streetlights, digital displays, and improved traffic junctions. Mechanized sweepers maintain daily sanitation.

Under “Operation Lungs,” GVMC cleared encroachments and set up vending zones for displaced vendors. Garg urged citizens and businesses to maintain cleanliness. “SHE Teams” are monitoring hygiene ahead of the summit.

Senior officials, including Chief Engineer S. Satyanarayana Raju and Chief Medical Officer Dr. E. N. V. Naresh Kumar, joined the inspection. Garg said the drive aims to make Visakhapatnam cleaner, greener, and event-ready.
