GVMC cracks down on illegal constructions
GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg has cautioned builders and property owners against carrying out illegal constructions in the city. In a statement on Sunday, he said some developers were adding unauthorised floors with the intention of later seeking regularisation under the government’s Building Penalisation Scheme (BPS). The civic body has strengthened enforcement through its Town Planning wing to address such violations.
The Commissioner said GVMC would not tolerate unlawful construction activity. Several structures raised without approval, including those meant to misuse the BPS option, have already been demolished. He urged owners to make proper use of the Layout Regularisation Scheme (LRS) and BPS to legalise eligible buildings instead of violating the rules.
Listing recent actions taken by the Town Planning Department, he cited the demolition of an unauthorised third floor at Door No. 12-55-1 & 2 in Prakash Rao Peta (Zone IV), the removal of illegal additional floors in Ward 31, Chakalipeta, and the demolition of unauthorised upper floors in Srinagar, Gajuwaka. He warned that similar action would continue wherever violations are found.
Mr. Garg clarified that buildings constructed on or before August 31, 2025, may be regularised under LRS and BPS. Structures built after that date, or those currently under construction without approval, will not be eligible for BPS benefits. He appealed to property owners to avail themselves of the schemes within the stipulated timeframe.
To assist the public, GVMC has set up a Help Desk at its head office. Owners can contact 91542 82649 or 91542 82654, or consult licensed technical experts for guidance. The Commissioner also urged citizens to report ongoing illegal construction through the toll-free number 1800 4250 0009.

GVMC Should take immediate strict action on builders who intentionally violating setbacks rules and safety norms apart from other Govt stipulated guidelines with the blatant intention of getting all their misdeeds officially regularised through BPS2025 Scheme, causing extreme inconvenience to the neighbours and respective colonies.
