MoEF&CC Approval Advances AP Water Aerodrome Plan
Andhra Pradesh’s plan to develop several water aerodromes has moved ahead with approval from the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change. The ministry has cleared the Terms of Reference, which allows the Andhra Pradesh Airports Development Corporation Limited to begin the Environmental Impact Assessment. This study must be completed before the project goes to the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board.
APADCL Managing Director C. V. Praveen Aditya told The Coastal Times that the expert committee approved the ToR with a set of conditions. He said ten locations have been shortlisted. Public consultations will be held soon to gather local views and address environmental issues.
The first phase includes sites at Prakasam Barrage in Vijayawada, Srisailam Dam, Lambasingi, Rushikonda in Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, Jalaput in Sileru, and Gandikota. Officials said these locations were selected for their suitability for water-based aircraft and their potential to support tourism.
Three more aerodromes are planned in Konaseema district, Tirupati, and Araku. Work on these sites will start after the first phase completes assessments and secures permissions.
Officials expect the project to improve regional air connectivity and boost tourism in scenic and cultural destinations. The next few months will be important as the project moves through environmental reviews and public consultations.
