Property offences dip in city in November: Police Commissioner

Police Commissioner Sankabratha Bagchi said that property offences in the city registered a decline in November 2025, with 70 cases reported during the month, compared to 85 cases in October and 79 in September.

Addressing the media here on Friday, he attributed the reduction to sustained preventive measures and focused investigations by the City Crime Wing. He said special teams were constituted to probe cases using technical and analytical methods.

The police detected 53 property offence cases during November and arrested 65 persons in connection with them. Property worth Rs 26.67 lakh was recovered in these cases. In addition, 502 missing mobile phones valued at Rs 75.30 lakh were traced and restored, taking the total value of recovered property to Rs 1.01 crore.

The detected cases included four robberies, two house break-ins during the day, eight house break-ins at night, two snatching cases, five motorcycle thefts, seven cattle thefts, and 25 cases of ordinary theft.

Mr. Bagchi said the results were achieved through round-the-clock efforts by the crime teams and meticulous investigation under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crimes).

As part of preventive measures, 213 CCTV cameras were installed across the city in November. The Crime Wing also conducted 253 crime awareness meetings to educate the public on crime patterns, methods used by offenders, and the importance of CCTV surveillance.

Special patrolling was carried out in crime-prone areas during the day and night, while drone surveillance continued in isolated locations to deter criminal activity, the Commissioner added.
