Tailoring training launched for tribal women in Maoist-hit areas

Creating livelihood options in Maoist-affected tribal regions, the Alluri Sitharama Raju district police launched a 15-day tailoring training programme on Saturday under the ‘SARAL’ community welfare initiative at the Youth Training Centre in Maredumilli. The programme is being organised under the aegis of the A.P. State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC), with a focus on promoting self-employment among unemployed tribal women.

Speaking at the inaugural event, Superintendent of Police Amit Bardar said the initiative aims to economically empower women in remote and backward areas. He recalled that in the program’s first phase, held in March 2025, 82 tribal women from surrendered Maoist families and interior villages received tailoring training in Araku.

In the second phase, 105 women from Maoist-affected mandals in Maredumilli, Rampachodavaram, Gurtedu, and Y. Ramavaram are participating in the training. Mr. Bardar said the district police were implementing several employment and self-employment initiatives to help local communities move toward sustainable livelihoods.

He urged the participants to utilise the opportunity to strengthen their economic independence, improve their families’ living conditions and contribute to the development of their respective regions.

Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Rampachodavaram G. Sai Prasanth and District Skill Development Officer D. Rohini were present at the programme.
