Parvatipuram-Manyam District Superintendent of Police S. V. Madhava Reddy on Tuesday said ganja smuggling and consumption would be dealt with strictly as part of the government’s resolve to make the district narcotics-free.
Speaking to The Coastal Times on December 30, the SP said special police teams had been formed to prevent the transportation of ganja into the district. Continuous surveillance was being maintained at check posts set up at key locations, including Kuneru, Komarada, Elwinpeta, Battili, and Bhamini.
He said special attention was being paid to the Andhra Pradesh–Odisha border to permanently curb the menace. Over the past few months, police have seized nearly 2,800 kg of ganja at various locations across the district.
Mr. Madhava Reddy said the department was also conducting awareness programmes to educate people on the harmful effects of drug abuse on health, family life and society. Awareness rallies were being organised as part of the initiative.
He expressed confidence that sustained enforcement and public participation would help make Parvatipuram-Manyam district completely drug-free by 2026.
