9th National Conference on Prisons to be held in Visakhapatnam

The Andhra Pradesh Prisons Department will host the 9th National Conference on Prisons and Correctional Services in Visakhapatnam on January 28 and 29, 2026. The event will bring together senior prison officials from across the country. They will discuss prison management and reforms.

The two-day conference will take place at Sai Priya Resorts on Beach Road. In addition, Heads of Prisons from all States and Union Territories will attend. These officers hold the rank of Director General and Inspector General. About 75 delegates from States and UTs will join the event. The Andhra Pradesh Prisons Department will also send 55 senior officers.

M. Mahesh Babu, Superintendent and Nodal Officer of Central Prison, Visakhapatnam, said the conference will help officials share views and best practices. He added that they will discuss current challenges in prison administration. For example, sessions will cover correctional services, prison reforms, inmate welfare, and security. They will also examine the modernisation of prison systems.

The conference will further focus on rehabilitation and better coordination among prison departments. As a result, officers can review current systems and learn from successful models in other States. They can also explore the use of technology and improved management practices.

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar will attend the inaugural session as the chief guest on January 28. Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Home Minister V. Anitha will attend the valedictory function on January 29.

Officials have made all arrangements for the event. They will also follow local health and safety guidelines to ensure the conference runs smoothly.
