Multi-Specialty Surgery Saves Accident Victim at KGH
A 46-year-old woman who suffered multiple facial fractures in a road accident was treated successfully through coordinated surgery at King George Hospital (KGH).
Sayamma was travelling in an autorickshaw from Bobbili to Salur when the vehicle was hit by an oncoming car. The impact left her with fractures to the jaw and several bones around the eye, causing serious injuries to the facial and orbital regions. She was rushed to KGH’s Emergency Department and admitted under the Plastic Surgery Department.
After assessment, doctors obtained clearance from the Neurosurgery team and planned a combined procedure. Plastic surgeons and ophthalmology specialists performed simultaneous surgeries to address both facial and eye injuries. Hospital Superintendent Dr. I. Vani coordinated the arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of the multi-department intervention.
The patient has now recovered and is being discharged. Her family members thanked the doctors and hospital authorities for the prompt treatment and said they were satisfied with the medical care, as well as the food and accommodation facilities provided.
Dr. Vani appreciated the efforts of the Head of Plastic Surgery, Dr. T. Mohan Rao, and the Head of Ophthalmology, Dr. V. Meenakshi, for their coordinated work. Doctors have advised the patient to visit the eye hospital for further follow-up related to her eye condition.
