64 Drones, Smart Tech to Boost Surveillance for IFR Events

Visakhapatnam city police have announced an extensive security and traffic management plan in preparation for the International Fleet Review (IFR), Navy Milan, and the City Parade. Police Commissioner Shankhabrata Bagchi stated that around 7,000 police personnel will be deployed across the city to ensure the smooth and safe conduct of the events.

Speaking to the media, Mr. Bagchi said lakhs of visitors are expected to gather to witness the naval displays. He added that several high-profile dignitaries, including the President, Governor, Chief Minister, Union Defence Minister, and delegates from 75 countries, are scheduled to attend. “Comprehensive and stringent security arrangements are being implemented throughout the city,” he said.

The police will make extensive use of technology to manage traffic flow and crowd movement. The ASRAM app will be utilised for real-time traffic monitoring and route regulation. Surveillance will be strengthened through the deployment of 64 drones and an expanded network of CCTV cameras. Additionally, the e-Path app will facilitate the coordinated movement of VVIPs, VIPs, and international delegates to and from event venues.

The Commissioner urged citizens to remain alert and report any suspicious activity by calling 79950-85789. He emphasised that public cooperation plays a vital role in maintaining safety during large gatherings.

To reinforce security, six permanent check posts have been established at district borders, where round-the-clock inspections will be carried out. Vehicle checks, nakabandi drives, and joint enforcement operations with APSRTC and other departments will be conducted. Task Force teams will also inspect lodges and accommodation facilities.

Residents have been advised to adhere to police instructions, safety guidelines, and notified traffic diversions, and to cooperate if viewing galleries reach capacity. Foreign nationals must complete the mandatory Form-3, while guest houses and homestays accommodating overseas visitors must inform local police stations.

The events, scheduled from February 15 to 20, coincide with Maha Shivaratri and the commencement of Ramzan. Authorities have advised citizens to avoid overcrowding during coastal holy baths and stressed the importance of communal harmony. Enhanced patrolling using GPS-enabled vehicles will continue throughout the city.
