Unions Protest Alleged RSS Activities at AU

Student unions, trade unions, Dalit organisations, and Left parties protested near the Gandhi statue by GVMC on Tuesday. They accused the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) of stirring communal tensions among Andhra University students.

The protesters urged Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to act immediately to stop RSS activities on campus. They also demanded the arrest of RSS activists and BJP-affiliated student unions.

In addition, they alleged that RSS members attacked students, teachers, and staff, disturbing campus peace. They also claimed that girl students were trolled on social media after their photographs were shared by RSS activists.

The demonstrators criticised the university and police for inaction. They said authorities failed to book cases against RSS workers who allegedly tore flags of student unions and a Dalit organisation, despite Section 30 of the Police Act being in force on campus.

Leaders who joined the protest included AIDWA district vice-president B. Padma, CITU district general secretary R.K.S.V. Kumar, AITUC leaders P. Ramana and Manmadha Rao, IFTU leader Tirupati Rao, APFTU leader Deva, and CFTUI leader Lakshmi.
