Left parties protest in Vizag against attacks on Iran

Leaders of Left parties held a protest at Jagadamba Junction on Thursday, condemning the attacks on Iran by the United States and Israel. They also demanded an immediate end to the war.

The leaders urged the Central and State governments to take urgent steps to bring back people from Visakhapatnam and other parts of Andhra Pradesh who are currently in the conflict zones.

Activists from several Left organisations gathered at the busy junction and raised slogans against the US and Israel. They also burnt effigies of US President Donald Trump during the protest.

Meanwhile, the leaders appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene and help de-escalate tensions in West Asia. They said India should play a proactive role in promoting peace in the region. They also urged the Centre to exert diplomatic pressure on the United States and Israel to stop the attacks on Iran.

In addition, the protestors called on civil society groups and democratic forces across the country to condemn the strikes. According to the leaders, the United States is targeting Iran to gain control over its oil reserves.

They further claimed that innocent civilians are suffering the most in the attacks. Children, students, and senior citizens are among those losing their lives. As a result, they warned that the region could face a serious humanitarian crisis.

The leaders also criticised the Chandrababu Naidu-led state government. They said the government has failed to press the Centre to ensure the safe return of people from Andhra Pradesh who remain in the conflict zones.

Among those who took part in the protest were M. Jaggu Naidu (CPI-M), Sk Rahaman (CPI), M. Lakshmi of CPIML (New Democracy), and Ch. Deva of CPIML (Praja Poru). They said the protests would continue until the attacks stop and peace returns to the region.
