Women Officers Celebrate Sports Ahead of International Women’s Day

District Collector M.N. Harendira Prasad on Friday said that women’s empowerment acquires real significance only when translated into action. He lauded women for their key role in governance and society, and for balancing family responsibilities alongside professional duties, calling for continued support to further women’s empowerment.

Ahead of International Women’s Day on March 8, the Collectorate organised special sports competitions for women officers and staff. The events were inaugurated by Collector Prasad and Joint Collector Gobbillu Vidyadhari with a ceremonial balloon toss.

Speaking at the event, the Collector noted the active participation of women in administrative work and in implementing government programmes. Citing global icons such as Sunita Williams, Kalpana Chawla, and P.V. Sindhu, he urged women to pursue their goals and set an example for society.

He highlighted the role of sports in promoting health, discipline, teamwork, and competitive spirit, which also contribute to professional development. The day-long competitions saw enthusiastic participation from Deputy Collectors Sheshashailaja, Anita, Ramalakshmi, and Madhavi, along with other women officers, Collectorate AO B.V. Rani, and departmental staff.

The programme concluded amid celebration and camaraderie, reflecting the spirit of women’s empowerment.
