Natural Farming to Boost Farmer Income and Sustainability

Natural farming offers a profitable and sustainable path for agriculture, and the TDP-led NDA government is actively promoting eco-friendly practices across Andhra Pradesh, said S. Savitha, Minister for BC, EWS Welfare, Handlooms and Textiles.

Speaking at a workshop on Natural Farming for Economically Weaker Sections organized by the EWS Welfare Department, Ms. Savitha highlighted the government’s focus on schemes that encourage self-reliance and sustainable livelihoods.

“The rising cost of fertilisers and pesticides is placing a growing burden on farmers. By reducing dependence on chemicals and using natural resources, agriculture can become more profitable and resilient,” she said.

Farmers from across the State attended the workshop and interacted with experts on techniques such as soil health management, organic inputs, crop rotation, and chemical-free pest control. Ms. Savitha noted that produce grown through natural farming not only commands higher prices but also has strong market demand, creating extra income opportunities for small and marginal farmers.

The Minister also toured stalls displaying vegetables, pulses, and other crops cultivated using organic fertilisers. She engaged with farmers to understand their methods and appreciated their efforts in adopting sustainable practices.

Special Chief Secretary, EWS Welfare, K. Sunitha, said the department is taking several initiatives to empower EWS communities by providing training, resources, and support for sustainable livelihoods.

The event was attended by community leaders, including Doondi Rakesh, Chairman of Arya Vysya Corporation; Nadendla Brahmam Chowdary, Kamma Corporation Chairman; Bucchi Ram Prasad, Brahmin Corporation Chairman; and M. Maheshwar Reddy, MD of Arya Vysya and Kshatriya Corporations, along with representatives from Rythu Sadhikara Samstha.
