Visakhapatnam’s Kailasagiri to Get 55-Foot Trishul and Damaru, Adding a Spiritual Landmark
Visakhapatnam’s iconic Kailasagiri hilltop park is set to add a striking new attraction—a 55-foot Trishul accompanied by a Damaru—bringing a spiritual and cultural touch to one of the city’s most popular tourist destinations. The ambitious project, initiated by the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA), carries an estimated cost of Rs 1.55 crore and is inspired by the sacred symbols associated with Lord Shiva.
VMRDA officials revealed that the installation will feature key motifs from Hindu mythology, meticulously designed using modern engineering techniques to ensure durability and aesthetic appeal. The Trishul, representing divine power, protection, and righteousness, will be paired with the Damaru, symbolising creation, the rhythm of the universe, and cosmic energy. Together, these symbols aim to deepen the cultural and spiritual experience for visitors to the park.
“Kailasagiri already draws close to 10 lakh visitors every year. The addition of these sacred symbols will further enhance the park’s cultural and spiritual landscape, providing both tourists and devotees with a unique experience,” said Dr. S. Raghunandan, a noted cultural historian and expert in temple architecture.
The new installations will be located on the Hanumanthuwaka side of the hill, carefully positioned to be visible from multiple vantage points across the city. The Trishul and Damaru will be constructed using a mild steel frame wrapped in translucent fibre-reinforced plastic, with built-in LED lighting to create a striking visual effect, especially at night. The Trishul will measure 25 feet in width and 22 feet in breadth, while the Damaru will be 10 feet by 18 feet. VMRDA has announced that the project is expected to be completed within the next six months.
“A Trishul accompanied by a Damaru, together reaching approximately 55 feet in height, is being built to attract both tourists and spiritual seekers. Its location on the Hanumanthuwaka side ensures it will be visible from various parts of the city,” said VMRDA Chairman M.V. Pranav Gopal. He also highlighted that the park’s other key attraction, the largest glass bridge in India, will soon be open to the public, promising panoramic views and an immersive experience.
Kailasagiri, spread across 380 acres, is renowned for its landscaped gardens, tropical greenery, and sweeping views of the city, coastline, and surrounding forests. Beyond the upcoming Trishul and Damaru, the park features several other attractions, including the Titanic viewpoint, the Shanku-Chakra Namas dedicated to Lord Venkateswara, a toy train for children, and a scenic ropeway connecting the hilltop park to the city below.
With these additions, Kailasagiri continues to cement its status as a must-visit destination in Visakhapatnam, blending natural beauty, cultural heritage, and modern engineering to create an unforgettable experience for all visitors.
