Narayana Stands Firm on Amaravati, Attacks YSRCP
Andhra Pradesh Municipal Administration & Urban Development Minister P. Narayana on Saturday accused the YSR Congress Party of running a calculated misinformation campaign to derail Amaravati’s development. He alleged that its president, Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, was attempting to trigger fear among capital region farmers through the newly proposed ‘MAVIGUN’ narrative.
Addressing the media, Narayana asserted that the TDP-led NDA government had made Amaravati a central election promise in 2024 and had delivered visible progress within just 20 months. He highlighted the ongoing construction of key institutions, including the Raj Bhavan, Legislative Assembly, and High Court, along with extensive infrastructure works covering 350 km of trunk roads and 1,500 km of layout roads.
“The pace of execution reflects our intent. Major tendering processes were completed within the first eight months after we assumed office in June 2024,” he said, underlining the administration’s urgency.
Taking aim at the opposition, Narayana said the YSRCP appeared rattled by Amaravati’s formal recognition as the sole capital following assent by Droupadi Murmu, yet continued to push what he described as unfounded claims.
On the contentious issue of rising construction costs, the minister squarely blamed the previous regime’s five-year halt between 2019 and 2024. He argued that the delay led to sharp increases in material costs and revisions in official rates, inflating project estimates. He added that expert committees and premier institutions, including IITs, were engaged to ensure a systematic restart.
Drawing comparisons, Narayana said Amaravati’s projected costs were in line with national benchmarks such as the Hyderabad Secretariat and New Delhi’s Parliament building, given its global design standards.
He further noted that 98.6% of land pooling allocations had been completed, with over 62,900 farmers registered, and reaffirmed that funding would come through monetising a 5,000-acre land bank, not public funds.
