Vizag Police Chief Orders Crime Crackdown
City Police Commissioner Dr. Shankhabrata Bagchi has ordered an intensified crackdown on drugs, crime, and traffic violations across Visakhapatnam during the monthly police review meeting held on Friday.
In a strong message to officers, the Commissioner directed all police stations to deliver visible results in controlling crime, clearing pending cases, and improving public safety across the city.
A major focus of the meeting was narcotics control. Reviewing NDPS cases registered so far, Dr. Bagchi instructed officials to ensure that no illegal drug transportation takes place through the city. He also reiterated zero tolerance towards ganja and all narcotics-related offences.
The Commissioner sought reports on active rowdy sheeters and the surveillance measures being taken against them. Officials were told to strengthen monitoring of habitual offenders and prevent anti-social activities in every police station jurisdiction.
To improve law and order, he ordered stronger visible policing, more pickets, and deployment of decoy teams in deserted and sensitive areas wherever required.
Traffic enforcement was another priority. Police were directed to take strict action against eve-teasing, triple riding, rash driving, and other violations affecting public safety.
Dr. Bagchi also reviewed long-pending criminal cases and instructed officers to speed up investigations and reduce delays. Court cases and conviction rates were also discussed, with officials asked to improve legal follow-up.
Women’s safety received special attention. Officers were instructed to respond immediately to cases involving harassment, missing women, and POCSO offences, while ensuring a sensitive and citizen-friendly approach.
The Commissioner called for stronger night patrolling to bring down crime and directed staff to fully use the Visitors Monitoring System (VMS) for faster identification of accused persons.
Cybercrime prevention was also reviewed. Officials were asked to conduct more awareness programmes for the public and adopt modern software tools to strengthen investigations.
Warning against corruption and misuse of authority, Dr. Bagchi said strict action would be taken against any officer involved in unlawful activities.
The meeting was attended by senior officials, including DCPs, ADCPs, ACPs, SHOs, and other police personnel.
