Visakhapatnam braces for two marquee events as VVIPs descend on city
Visakhapatnam will be in the national spotlight over the next two days as the city hosts two major events, including the centenary celebrations of Andhra University and the foundation stone-laying ceremony for Google’s proposed hyperscale AI Data Centre, with several top dignitaries expected to attend.
Vice-President of India C. P. Radhakrishnan, Andhra Pradesh Governor S. Abdul Nazeer, and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will participate in the Andhra University centenary celebrations on April 27. On April 28, Union Ministers, the Chief Minister, State Ministers, and representatives of Google are scheduled to attend the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the company’s 1 GW hyperscale AI Data Centre at Tarluvada in Anandapuram mandal.
According to officials, Mr. Naidu will arrive at Naval Coastal Battery around 3 p.m. on April 27 before proceeding to Andhra University for the celebrations alongside other dignitaries.
In preparation for the April 28 event, District Collector M. Abhishikt Kishore recently reviewed arrangements and directed departments to ensure flawless execution of the programme.
He instructed officials to coordinate with Google representatives and conduct advance inspections of the project site. With more than 1,000 attendees expected, departments have been asked to make adequate arrangements for parking, drinking water, sanitation, and traffic regulation. Regular water sprinkling has also been ordered to control dust pollution.
The Collector said Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw is likely to attend the ceremony. Dignitaries are expected to arrive at Tarluvada at 9.15 a.m., while the programme is scheduled from 9.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m.
Later in the evening on April 27, the Chief Minister will attend the second meeting of the Visakhapatnam Economic Region (VER) after the university event. The GVMC and VMRDA Commissioners have been directed to make necessary arrangements and compile updates on ongoing projects and other key issues.
