Traffic Curbs for AU Centenary Event in Vizag
The Visakhapatnam City Police have announced major traffic restrictions and diversions in view of the valedictory function of Andhra University’s centenary celebrations to be held at the Andhra University grounds on April 27.
Several VVIPs, including the Vice-President of India, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, the Governors of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, former Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu, Union and State Ministers, and cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, are expected to attend the event.
With nearly 25,000 students likely to participate, elaborate security and crowd management arrangements have been put in place across the city.
Police said vehicular movement would be prohibited on the stretch from Third Town Police Station Junction to Maddilapalem Arch from 9 a.m. on April 26 to 10 p.m. on April 27. Traffic may also be halted temporarily at key junctions during the movement of VVIP convoys from the airport, hotels, and guest houses to the venue.
Heavy vehicles travelling from Srikakulam and Vizianagaram towards Anakapalle have been diverted at Anandapuram via Pendurthi and Sabbavaram. Vehicles heading in the opposite direction from Anakapalle will be diverted at Lankelapalem.
Separate parking areas have been earmarked for dignitaries, VVIP and VIP pass holders, media personnel, officials, and buses bringing students from various parts of the city and neighbouring districts.
Students attending the programme have been instructed to carry authorised identity cards, without which entry will not be permitted. Except for mobile phones, no other items will be allowed inside the venue.
The police have appealed to the public to plan travel, use alternative routes, and cooperate with officials during the restrictions.
