5K run organised at RK Beach to create awareness on Census

A 5K run was organised on RK Beach Road here on Sunday to create awareness among the public on the national population census and the need for wider participation in the exercise.

District Revenue Officer M. Visweshwara Naidu flagged off the run near the Kali Mata Temple at RK Beach in the morning. Addressing the participants, he said the Census was an important national exercise that played a key role in development planning, policy formulation, and allocation of resources.

He said reliable population data was essential for governments to plan infrastructure, welfare schemes, and public services. Referring to earlier records, he noted that census data from the British period continued to serve as valuable reference material even today, underlining the long-term importance of accurate data collection.

Children presented traditional performances, including Karra Saamu, before the flag-off, drawing appreciation from the gathering.

Officials also used the occasion to explain the Self Enumeration facility, which enables citizens to submit their details digitally without waiting for enumerators to visit their homes. They said the initiative was aimed at making the census process more convenient, faster, and accessible to the public.

GVMC Additional Commissioner Ramanamurthy, Zonal Commissioners, other officials, volunteers, and a large number of youth participated in the programme.
