ULBs post strong April property tax collections

Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in Andhra Pradesh have begun the 2026–27 financial year on a strong note, collecting ₹948.15 crore in property tax in April — accounting for 35.34 per cent of the total current demand of ₹2,683.50 crore.

Including arrears and penalties, total collections rose to ₹1,010.79 crore, marking a 24.16 per cent increase from ₹814.12 crore collected during the same period last year.

Principal Secretary, Municipal Administration and Urban Development, S. Suresh Kumar, reviewed the performance on Sunday through a video conference with municipal commissioners. Discussions focused on sustaining the collection momentum, addressing operational issues, and improving citizen services. Officials attributed the improved performance to technology-driven initiatives and focused administrative monitoring.

Mr. Suresh Kumar said current-year collections increased by ₹176.72 crore compared to last year, reflecting a growth of 22.91 per cent. The overall demand also rose from ₹2,556.71 crore in 2025–26 to ₹2,683.50 crore this year, indicating improved assessment coverage and an expanded municipal tax base.

Among municipal corporations, Kakinada led with a 43.28 per cent collection rate, followed by Mangalagiri-Tadepalli (41.21 per cent), Guntur (40.79 per cent), Rajahmundry (40.41 per cent), and Kurnool (39.59 per cent). Vijayawada recorded 39.21 per cent, while Visakhapatnam (GVMC) achieved 33.25 per cent.

Among municipalities, Addanki topped with 51.56 per cent, while Atmakur, Vuyyuru, Vinukonda, Kovvur, and Ponnur also posted strong performances.

Mr. Suresh Kumar credited the use of GIS-based mapping, drone surveys, digital dashboards, and app-based payment systems for identifying unassessed and under-assessed properties and improving transparency. Payment options were simplified through platforms such as Puramithra and Mana Mitra, along with online gateways and ULB counters. A five per cent rebate offered until April 30 further encouraged early payments, he added.
