Liver wellness camp inaugurated at Andhra Medical College

A two-day Liver Wellness Camp was inaugurated at the Panagal Building Examination Hall of Andhra Medical College on Monday, focusing on the early detection and prevention of liver-related ailments among healthcare professionals.

Principal Dr. K.V.S.M. Sandhya Devi, Superintendent Dr. I. Vani, and Head of the Department of Endocrinology Dr. K.A.V. Subrahmanyam inaugurated the camp and interacted with participants.

Organised jointly by the Departments of Medical Gastroenterology, Biochemistry, and Social and Preventive Medicine, the programme aims to raise awareness about the role of FibroScan in the early detection of liver fibrosis and to promote preventive healthcare practices.

“Fatty liver and metabolic syndrome are increasingly being observed among healthcare professionals due to high stress levels, long working hours, and irregular lifestyles,” the organisers said. “Early detection through FibroScan enables timely intervention and helps prevent the progression to serious liver diseases.”

As part of the initiative, free FibroScan screenings and comprehensive metabolic blood panel tests are being provided to healthcare personnel on May 4 and 5. Doctors noted that these screenings help assess liver health and identify risk factors at an early stage.

The organisers also emphasised the importance of lifestyle modification. “Adopting a balanced diet, engaging in regular physical activity, and managing stress are essential not only for personal well-being but also for setting a positive example for patients,” they said.

The camp has received a steady response from medical staff, and organisers expressed hope that such initiatives would encourage regular health check-ups and greater awareness of liver health.
